On December 6-7, 2024, the Confucius Institute at the University of Malaya and Beijing Foreign Studies University jointly organized the Malaysia International Training Program for Local Chinese Language Teachers. Teachers Darren, Toh, and Jing Jing from the our center participated in the event. The training featured lectures by Professor Zhu Yong, Associate Professor Ji Wei, and Teacher Xu Nuo, focusing on the diversity and practicality of Chinese language teaching methods.
Professor Zhu Yong provided an in-depth analysis of the POA teaching model (Planning, Operation, Assessment), emphasizing the importance of adjusting teaching activities based on student feedback. He also introduced AI tools, such as Doubao AI, as valuable teaching aids. Teacher Xu Nuo shared insights on selecting appropriate teaching materials and designing interactive classroom activities to enhance student engagement. Associate Professor Ji Wei discussed innovative approaches to pinyin instruction, demonstrating practical techniques and the joys and challenges of teaching.
The three teachers gained valuable teaching skills through this training and plan to integrate the learned theories and practices into their teaching. Their goal is to improve students’ Chinese proficiency and inspire greater interest and enthusiasm for learning the language.
